The different structures of addresses in different countries and different languages can seem to be an insurmountable obstacle when trying to bring consistency of address structures for the purposes of Data Quality and Master Data Management.

Without the right tool it is insurmountable. However, with the right tool is becomes relatively simple.

What is this tool? How much does it cost? Can all enterprises afford it?

The truth is that no enterprise can afford to be without!

However the good news is that the tool is absolutely free! and can be used by any member of the business with just a little training.

And what is the tool called? It goes under the trade name of LDM.

It’s Only Logical to Use It!

The Logical Data Model (LDM) makes the mapping of the disparate address structures around the globe relatively simple.

The data structure shown in the diagram above means that, once you know the country and the language, the sequence and format of all of the elements of an address are known and can be displayed in the correct order and format, and this is the case for both address input and retrieval.

Start at the End

Once you know this structure, it becomes obvious that, contrary to normal practice, the first elements to be specified when entering an address are the Country and the Language.

Once these two elements are known all of the relevant fields for that language and country can be displayed and completed in the correct order.
